Learn moreBlue sapphires feature a palette of varying hues, each with its own allure and market.
The couleur "Cornflower" is one of the most popular at the moment, offering a deep blue hue that is neither too light nor too dark, capturing the very essence of the summer sky.
The “Royal Blue” remains a timeless classic, with a deep shade comparable to navy blue, evoking elegance and nobility.
The "Ceylon Blue", specific to sapphires from Sri Lanka, is also highly sought after for its luminosity and softness, reminiscent of the clarity of tropical waters.
Finally, the “Cashmere Blue”, characteristic of sapphires from this region, is distinguished by a deep, silky blue with a slight touch of purple, like a starry night. Other stones like spinelle can vary from blue to purple.
Each color has its own specificities and its own price segment. “Cashmere Blue”, for example, can reach heights in terms of value due to its rarity and high demand. “Ceylon Blue” is valued for its availability and universal appeal.
At Bonnot Paris, we understand the importance of these nuances and we are committed to guiding you towards the choice that will best suit your jewelry project, ensuring impeccable quality and provenance.

Blue gray sapphire is a relatively rare variety of sapphire. It generally comes from Madagascar or Ceylon. It is an authentic sapphire, of which various elements create this pigmentation which reacts to light and gives an original color. Please note that there are also saphirs bicolores.
The shades, less saturated, vary from mouse-gray blue sapphire to a slightly chrome, turquoise or darker appearance. Many of these sapphire blue stones possess an aura of mystery or exoticism. Traditionally, a blue sapphire wedding ring is made of white or yellow gold. A bague saphir blue gray is more often white gold. The softness of blue-gray sapphire also harmonizes with rose gold. The gray blue sapphire has the same signification que le saphir blue, but its more neutral hue seems to reinforce the impression of balance and peace.
The blue sapphire, a member of the corundum family much like the ruby, is famous for its captivating blue color, which varies from bright light blue to deep, saturated blue. This range of blues is the result of traces of elements such as iron and the titanium in the crystal structure of the mineral. The concentration and distribution of these elements is what gives sapphire its specific nuances.
Blue sapphires may have inclusions, like all colored gems. However, they are generally purer than emeralds or rubies, with fewer visible inclusions. THE blue sapphires without visible inclusions under a magnifying glass are extremely rare and highly sought after.
The hardness of blue sapphire is 9 on the Mohs scale. This is ideal for use in jewelry, as it holds up well to scratches and daily wear and tear. It is a stone particularly prized for engagement rings and others jewelry intended to be worn frequently.
Heat treatment is common to improve the clarity and color of blue sapphires. Although this does not negatively affect the quality of the stone, it may influence its price. A untreated blue sapphire will generally be more expensive than a treated sapphire, due to its rarity and natural state.
At Bonnot Paris, we are committed to providing the highest quality blue sapphires. We select our stones carefully to ensure they exhibit the best color and clarity characteristics, making each piece of jewelry we create not only beautiful but also of exceptional quality. Our gemological experts work directly with global sources to obtain blue sapphires without middlemen, ensuring the better level of traceability and quality for our customers.

The blue sapphire has long been associated with wisdom, dignity and loyalty. A symbol of fidelity and sincerity, this gem is often chosen to celebrate engagements or wedding anniversaries, particularly the 16th, known as sapphire wedding.
The durability and timeless beauty of sapphire reflect the qualities of a thriving marriage that has stood the test of time. Giving a piece of jewelry set with blue sapphire for a wedding anniversary is a symbolic gesture, marking the renewal of vows and the continued commitment between partners.

The blue sapphire is extracted in many countries, each with its fame and particularities:
• Sri Lanka : this country remains the main supplier of blue sapphires on the current market, with centuries-old extraction. The emblematic shade of these gems is also called "Bleu de Ceylan". • Madagascar : this island has become the second largest source of sapphires, recognized for the high quality of its stones. However, supply is sometimes hampered by government moratoriums on exports. • Cashmere : although less known to the general public, this region has provided some of the most sumptuous sapphires in the world. Production there is now anecdotal, which gives these gems an exceptional rarity. • Australia : Sapphires are mainly mined in New South Wales and Queensland.
Blue sapphire is also found in Burma, Thailand and Montana in the United States, each offering unique characteristics that enrich the global market for these gems. See all our saphirs à l'achat.

The value of blue sapphire varies considerably depending on several essential criteria: the intensity of its color, its clarity, its weight, its origin and its rarity.
It is crucial to note that the price of sapphire increases exponentially with its weight, because the larger the stone, the rarer it is. For example, a heated blue sapphire good quality 1 carat will cost around €1000 per carat. While a 3-carat blue sapphire of equivalent quality will cost around €2,000 per carat.
Heat treatment also greatly influences the blue sapphires price. In fact, an unheated stone will cost approximately 30% more for stones of 1 to 2 carats. And this price can be multiplied by 10 or more for higher weights.
Today, the most expensive and also the rarest blue sapphires come from Cashmere. The finest of them sell for several tens of thousands of dollars per carat. In 2021, a 27-carat Kashmir blue sapphire was sold at auction for €2.1 million (source).
Other highly demanded and much more affordable blue sapphires come from Sri Lanka and Madagascar. These sources offer very good quality. For a similar stone, a blue sapphire from Sri Lanka will be more expensive than a blue sapphire from Madagascar.
