Sri Lanka : This is where the majority of pink sapphires on the market come from. They are mainly extracted in the southern part of the island.

‍Madagascar : There are also many pink sapphires found in Madagascar. The most famous come from the Ilakaka region, in the south of the island. However, it is difficult to find good quality stones over 2 carats in this region. Madagascar also supplies magnificent teal sapphires.

‍Myanmar: Some of the most beautiful pink sapphires come from Burma.

Tanzania: Pink sapphires are also found in this region. Some of them are extracted by the Moyo Gems association, the first association supported by an international NGO and aiming for responsible mining.

Pink sapphires are also found in Tajikistan, Afghanistan, and Greenland.

How to determine the value of a pink sapphire?

The saphir rose is a highly prized precious gemstone, its rarity and high demand make it a stone of great value.

For a good quality pink sapphire, with a pure pink color of about 2 carats and unheated, you should expect to pay between approximately €2200 per carat and €3000 per carat. The price per carat will be lower if the stone has been heated or if it shows a secondary color, such as a hint of violet.

Pink sapphires of exceptional quality can fetch several thousand dollars per carat. In 2022, during an auction organized by Sotheby's, a record price per carat was reached with a value of $90,000 (per carat).

Treatment and enhancement of Pink Sapphire

What are these treatments?

Chauffe à haute température : This method, used since Antiquity, consists of heating sapphires in traditional furnaces that can reach up to 1,800°C.‍

‍Chauffe à basse température : Carried out between 800 and 1,200°C, this technique enhances the color and transparency of sapphires while preserving their structure. It is often used for stones with less intense colors, thus offering a subtle enhancement.

‍Chauffe au béryllium : This treatment involves heating sapphires in the presence of beryllium, a chemical element that alters their color, particularly to enhance yellow or orange hues.

Although effective, this method is controversial because it alters the chemical composition of the sapphire. This is why Bonnot Paris chooses not to offer beryllium-treated stones.

Directly at the mine

We favor direct partnerships with mines, which allows us to obtain rough gemstones directly from the source.

Our partnerships span the globe, including Africa (Namibia, Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya), Vietnam, and Sri Lanka. We carefully select gemstones based on their quality and then have them cut by our workshops in France and Bangkok, ensuring complete control over the transformation process.

LEVEL 2

From local Brokers

Our collaborations with international brokers allow us to acquire precious stones over a wide geographical area.

These brokers, based in Africa, Brazil, Colombia, and Vietnam, travel across vast territories to source gemstones that meet our strict criteria of quality, traceability, and price. The purchased rough stones are then cut in our specialized workshops in France and Bangkok.

LEVEL 3

From the main pruning centers

We have strategically located offices in Jaipur, Bangkok and Beruwala (Sri Lanka).

These centers allow us to purchase pre-cut gemstones, such as Zambian emeralds in Jaipur or sapphires and other various gemstones in Sri Lanka and Bangkok. Thanks to these offices, we can precisely meet the specific demands of our customers by offering a wide range of high-quality stones.
