There is naturally a variety of shades of saphir violet. The stone can be light, rather mauve or lilac, or it can appear intense and very dark (plum, purple…).

In any case, the violet sapphire is a rather rare stone, compared to the blue sapphire and its multiple shades of blue.

Several countries are renowned for being excellent sources of stunning violet sapphires, starting with the sapphire from Madagascar, the Sri Lanka and Tanzania.

How to determine the value of a violet sapphire?

Many criteria must be taken into account to estimate the price of gemstones, and each sapphire is unique. You may notice significant price variations depending on the origin and the level of purity or "clarity," as well as the richness of the color. Therefore, only as a general guideline, consider that the price of a violet sapphire may prove to be quite close of that ofa blue sapphire. Some are more affordable. However, remarkable violet sapphires can still sell at high prices.

Treatment and enhancement of Violet Sapphire

What are these treatments?

Chauffe à haute température : Used since Antiquity, this method consists of heating sapphires in traditional furnaces at temperatures that can reach up to 1,800°C.

‍Chauffe à basse température : This treatment is carried out at temperatures between 800 and 1,200°C. It improves the color and transparency of sapphires while preserving their structure. This method is often applied to stones with less intense color, thus offering a subtle enhancement.

‍Chauffe au béryllium : This technique involves heating sapphires in the presence of beryllium, a chemical element that alters their color, particularly to enhance yellow or orange hues.

Although this treatment is effective, it is controversial because it alters the chemical composition of the sapphire. This is why Bonnot Paris chooses not to include stones that have undergone beryllium treatment in its selections.

Directly at the mine

We favor direct partnerships with mines, which allows us to obtain rough gemstones directly from the source.

Our partnerships span the globe, including Africa (Namibia, Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya), Vietnam, and Sri Lanka. We carefully select gemstones based on their quality and then have them cut by our workshops in France and Bangkok, ensuring complete control over the transformation process.

LEVEL 2

From local Brokers

Our collaborations with international brokers allow us to acquire precious stones over a wide geographical area.

These brokers, based in Africa, Brazil, Colombia, and Vietnam, travel across vast territories to source gemstones that meet our strict criteria of quality, traceability, and price. The purchased rough stones are then cut in our specialized workshops in France and Bangkok.

LEVEL 3

From the main pruning centers

We have strategically located offices in Jaipur, Bangkok and Beruwala (Sri Lanka).

These centers allow us to purchase pre-cut gemstones, such as Zambian emeralds in Jaipur or sapphires and other various gemstones in Sri Lanka and Bangkok. Thanks to these offices, we can precisely meet the specific demands of our customers by offering a wide range of high-quality stones.

Once again, the majority of jewelers tend to favor the sale of their own stones to the detriment of customer desires.
