At Bonnot Paris, every stone is selected for its rarity, its quality and its ethical sourcing, ensuring full traceability, exceptional standards and fair pricing.
Spessartite (or spessartine) garnet is a rare variety of garnet whose colour ranges from vivid orange to red-orange. Its hue comes from the manganese present in the crystal. Specimens of a pure, radiant orange are known as "mandarin garnets" and are particularly sought after.
Its sun-bright orange colour, intense fire and remarkable brilliance make it a stone of real character. Rare and luminous, spessartite is a distinctive and daring alternative to diamond, ideal for a strong personality in search of a truly unique piece.
With a hardness of 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale, spessartite is a solid and tough stone, well suited to regular wear. It is, however, slightly less hard than sapphire or diamond: we recommend a protective setting (bezel or halo) and a little everyday care to preserve its brilliance in the long term.
Generally, no. Unlike many gemstones, spessartite garnets are not typically heated or treated: their colour is 100% natural. This is one of their greatest assets — an authenticity we guarantee for every stone we offer.
Yellow gold and rose gold extend the warm tones of the stone for a harmonious, sun-lit result. White gold or platinum, by contrast, create a luminous contrast that intensifies the orange brilliance. The choice comes down to your personal style and skin tone.
Both offer beautiful orange hues, but spessartite stands out for its superior fire and brilliance, owing to its high refractive index, as well as its naturally untreated colour. Orange sapphire, being harder (9 on the Mohs scale), is more resistant to scratching. The choice comes down to your priorities: flamboyant radiance or maximum durability.
The main deposits are found in Nigeria, Namibia, Tanzania and Mozambique. Every stone we offer is carefully selected for its colour, clarity and brilliance.
