At Bonnot Paris, every stone is selected for its rarity, its quality and its ethical sourcing, ensuring full traceability, exceptional standards and fair pricing.
A bicolour tourmaline is a stone that displays two distinct colours — sometimes more — within a single crystal; for example, pink and green, or green and colourless. This phenomenon results from shifts in the crystal's composition during its formation, making each stone absolutely unique.
Watermelon tourmaline is the most celebrated bicolour variety: it combines a pink centre encircled by a green ring, evoking a slice of watermelon. Cut into slices to reveal this striking contrast, it is particularly sought after for its spectacular and entirely natural effect.
Its unique character and dual hues make it a stone full of personality — impossible to replicate exactly. It is a bold and original alternative to the diamond, ideal for those who want a truly singular piece of jewellery that reflects their own story.
With a hardness of 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale, bicolour tourmaline is a robust stone well suited to regular wear. It is, however, softer than sapphire or diamond: we recommend a protective setting (bezel or halo) and a little everyday care to preserve its brilliance over the long term.
It depends on the stone. Some bicolour tourmalines retain a completely natural colour, while others are gently heated to enhance their hues. In every case, we disclose any treatment a stone has undergone, in the interest of full transparency.
Open-faceted cuts (emerald, cushion) and polished slices are particularly effective at revealing the contrast between the two colours. The choice of cut is decisive: we select each stone and orient the setting to bring out its bicolour character to its fullest.
The principal deposits are found in Brazil (notably for watermelon tourmalines), Mozambique, Nigeria, Madagascar and Afghanistan. Every stone we offer is carefully selected for its colours, clarity and brilliance.
