"My experience at Bonnot Paris was incredible from start to finish. From the very first appointment, I knew I was in good hands.
François took the time to understand my needs and preferences, and presented me with a selection of stones that were each more beautiful than the last. The design process was a true collaboration. The designer drew up 5 options and was very receptive to my comments. The end result is a bespoke ring that I adore."

"We called on Monsieur Deprez to create our wedding rings for our wedding. From the very first appointment, he understood my husband's style. The designs are very well done, and the whole team is very attentive to any changes that need to be made. Mr. Deprez was also able to adapt perfectly to the budget he was given.
The rings are of impeccable quality. We'll be calling on him again for other projects without hesitation!"

Ruby characteristics
The name "ruby" comes from the Latin word "ruber", meaning "red".

Origin of the stone:
Historical and geographical sources
Burma has long been home to some of the world's most beautiful rubies. Mogok, located in the northern region of the country, has been the main source of these legendary "pigeon's blood" rubies since the 6th century. The distinctive hue of Burmese rubies, a deep red with a slight purple tinge, has captivated the hearts of gem connoisseurs for centuries.
Mozambique: In recent years, Mozambique has established itself as a major source of high-quality rubies. Discovered in the Montepuez region in 2009, these rubies feature a rich red color that rivals their Burmese counterparts. The majority of the world's rubies now come from Mozambique, playing a significant role in the global ruby market. Discover our Mozambique rubies for purchase.
Madagascar : The island nation of Madagascar is known for producing a range of fine gems, including rubies. First discovered in the late 1990s, Malagasy rubies come mainly from the Andilamena and Vatomandry regions. These rubies have a vibrant red hue with slight orange nuances, and are highly prized for their brilliance and clarity.
Other ruby sources include Thailand, Sri-Lanka and Tanzania. We can also design your ruby engagement ring.

The value and quality of a ruby:
How do you know the value of a ruby?
The most significant factor in determining the value of a ruby is its color. The most desirable hue is a deep, vivid red with a very slight blue tinge, often referred to as "pigeon's blood" red. Rubies with a strong, saturated color command higher prices, while those with pale or overly dark tones are generally less expensive.
As with other gems, larger rubies are rarer and generally more valuable. However, it's important to consider the overall quality of the gem, as a smaller ruby with exceptional color and clarity may be more valuable than a larger stone with inferior attributes. The size of a ruby can greatly affect its beauty and value. A well-cut ruby will enhance the gem's color, clarity and brilliance, while a poorly cut stone can diminish its appeal. Skillful cutting also ensures proper proportions and symmetry, which can further enhance the ruby's value. For example, a top-quality, unheated 1-carat Pigeon's Blood Ruby from Burma will cost €8,000. A 3-carat ruby of the same quality can fetch 200k€.
The geographical origin of a ruby can influence its value, with certain locations renowned for producing exceptional stones. Historically, rubies from Burma (Myanmar) have been highly prized for their rich, saturated colors. However, quality rubies from Mozambique, Madagascar and other sources can also command high prices.

Ruby processing and enhancement
What are these treatments?
The majority of rubies undergo treatments to improve their color and clarity. While treated rubies are generally more affordable, untreated stones of exceptional quality are rarer and can fetch much higher prices.
Classic ruby heating has been practiced for centuries. The aim is to improve the color or purity of the stones. This operation is carried out in a traditional furnace at between 800°C and 1800°C, depending on the rough stone and the desired result.
Other treatments include crack filling (e.g. with oil), heating with a flux (borax) or heat treatment with leaded glass filling. The aim of these treatments is to fill the inclusions to improve their brilliance. Diffusion treatment modifies the color of a stone by diffusing chemical elements (such as titanium or beryllium) at high temperature. The new hue remains superficial and may fade if the stone is worn or repolished. This treatment artificially alters the gem's appearance.

Our Sourcing of Precious Stones
At Bonnot Paris, we are committed to providing the finest gemstones through rigorous and ethical sourcing.
We have developed three main sourcing methods to guarantee the quality and traceability of our gems: directly from the mines, via brokers and from renowned cutting centers. Find out more about our methods below.
Directly to the mine
We favor direct partnerships with the mines, enabling us to obtain raw gemstones directly from the source.
Our partnerships span the globe, notably in Africa (Namibia, Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya), Vietnam and Sri Lanka. By carefully selecting gems according to their quality, we then have them cut by our workshops in France and Bangkok, ensuring total control over the transformation process.
Through local brokers
Our partnerships with international brokers enable us to acquire gemstones over a wide geographical area.
These brokers, based in Africa, Brazil, Colombia and Vietnam, scour vast territories to source gems that meet our strict criteria of quality, traceability and price. The rough stones are then cut in our specialized workshops in France and Bangkok.
From the main size centers
We have offices strategically located in Jaipur, Bangkok and Beruwala (Sri Lanka).
These centers enable us to purchase pre-cut gemstones, such as Zambian emeralds in Jaipur, or sapphires and other assorted gems in Sri Lanka and Bangkok. Thanks to these offices, we can respond precisely to our customers' specific requirements, offering a wide range of top-quality stones.
More competitive prices
These three levels of sourcing enable us to offer you the best gemstones at the best prices, while guaranteeing their origin and exceptional quality.
We are committed to maintaining these standards to continue satisfying our most demanding customers.
Through Reseller Merchants
The vast majority of traditional jewelers buy their stones from dealers in their own countries.
The result is a limited choice of products and, above all, prices that are far removed from market prices.
At the jeweller's
Once again, the majority of jewellers tend to favour selling their own stones to the detriment of customers' desires.
By offering only a limited selection, the jeweler inevitably leads to a choice. At Bonnot Paris, it's the customer who chooses, and we source the ideal stone for his or her needs.
Certification and Ethics: Our Commitments
Certification and ethics are essential pillars of Maison Bonnot Paris. Every stone we offer is certified by renowned independent laboratories such as GIA, AIGS, ICA, LFG and SSEF.
This guarantees the authenticity and quality of our gems. What's more, we're proud to know the origin of the majority of the stones we offer.
Many of them come from brokers located in extraction areas we know well, ensuring impeccable traceability and ethics.
Although ethics are at the heart of our commitment, we recognize that there is still much to be done in this area.
We are determined to continue our efforts to guarantee the responsible and ethical provenance of every stone.

Certification by partner laboratories
At Bonnot Paris, every gemstone passes through our certification laboratory.
Thanks to rigorous analysis and state-of-the-art equipment, we guarantee the authenticity, purity and quality of our gems. Each stone is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by our experts, ensuring our customers total transparency and absolute confidence in their investment.
