The blue sapphire is the undisputed benchmark of coloured stones. From the velvety cornflower blue of Ceylon to the deepest royal blue, its colour is born from the iron-titanium pairing, and its value turns on saturation, purity, origin and treatment. Our blue sapphires are sourced directly in Sri Lanka and Madagascar, certified by independent laboratories, heated or unheated according to your project. The stone of fidelity and of the great royal houses, the sapphire is also, with a hardness of 9/10, the ideal gemstone for everyday wear. Already picturing your stone set? Explore our blue sapphire engagement rings, created bespoke around certified stones — or discover its modern cousin, the teal sapphire.

Blue sapphires display a varied palette of hues, each with its own character and its own market.
"Cornflower" is one of the most sought-after shades at present, offering a rich blue tone that is neither too light nor too dark, capturing the very essence of a summer sky.
"Royal Blue" remains a timeless classic, with a deep hue comparable to navy, evoking elegance and nobility.
"Ceylon Blue", particular to sapphires from Sri Lanka, is equally prized for its luminosity and softness, reminiscent of the clarity of tropical waters.
Finally, "Kashmir Blue", characteristic of sapphires from that region, is distinguished by a deep, silky blue with a faint violet touch, like a starlit night.
Each colour has its own characteristics and its own price segment. "Kashmir Blue", for example, can reach exceptional heights in value due to its rarity and strong demand. "Ceylon Blue" is appreciated for its availability and universal appeal.
At Bonnot Paris, we understand the importance of these nuances and are committed to guiding you towards the choice that best suits your project, ensuring irreproachable quality and provenance.

The blue sapphire is mined in many countries, each with its own reputation and distinctive character:
• Sri Lanka: this country remains the principal supplier of blue sapphires on the current market, with a centuries-old mining tradition. The emblematic shade of these gems is in fact named "Ceylon Blue".
• Madagascar: this island has become the second-largest source of sapphires, recognised for the high quality of its stones. However, supply is sometimes hindered by government export moratoria.
• Kashmir: though less widely known to the general public, this region has yielded some of the most magnificent sapphires in the world. Production is now negligible, which lends these gems an exceptional rarity.
• Australia: sapphires are mined primarily in New South Wales and Queensland.
Blue sapphires are also found in Burma, Thailand and Montana in the United States, each source offering unique characteristics that enrich the global market for these treasured stones.

The value of a blue sapphire varies considerably depending on several key criteria: the intensity of its colour, its clarity, its weight, its origin and its rarity.
It is important to note that the price of a sapphire rises exponentially with its weight, as the larger the stone, the rarer it becomes. For example, a good-quality heated blue sapphire of 1 carat will cost around €1,000 per carat, while a blue sapphire of 3 carats of equivalent quality will cost around €2,000 per carat.
Heat treatment also has a significant influence on the price of blue sapphires. An unheated stone will cost approximately 30% more for stones between 1 and 2 carats, and this premium can be multiplied tenfold or more for larger weights.
Today, the rarest and most expensive blue sapphires come from Kashmir. The finest examples trade at several tens of thousands of dollars per carat.
Other highly sought-after and considerably more accessible blue sapphires come from Sri Lanka and Madagascar, both of which offer excellent quality. For a comparable stone, a Sri Lankan blue sapphire will command a higher price than one from Madagascar.

Merci beaucoup 😋
