Yes. With a hardness of 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale, it withstands everyday wear very well. A claw or bezel setting will offer the stone additional protection over time.
They are two distinct stones that look visually similar. At comparable quality, green tourmaline is more accessible and often cleaner (fewer inclusions) than emerald, which is almost always treated with oil.
Verdelite is the classic green tourmaline, coloured by iron and ranging from olive green to forest green. Chrome tourmaline, rarer, is coloured by chromium: its intense, luminous green comes close to that of an emerald.
Some stones are lightly heated to enhance their colour. At Bonnot Paris, we favour natural, certified stones and always disclose any treatment where applicable.
