Yes. Garnet has a hardness of 6.5 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale, depending on the variety, making it a stone suited to regular wear. Slightly softer than sapphire, it benefits from protection through a setting designed accordingly (a bezel setting or protective claws), which we tailor to each creation.
Garnet is one of the most varied gemstone families. Beyond deep garnet red (almandine), there is raspberry-pink rhodolite, mandarin-orange spessartite, and the most sought-after green garnets: tsavorite and demantoid. Each shade gives a ring a very different character.
The price depends on the garnet variety (a tsavorite is far rarer than an almandine), the carat weight, the metal chosen (18-carat gold or platinum) and any diamond pavé. As each project is bespoke, we provide a precise quotation once the stone has been selected.
Ruby (a variety of corundum) is harder and rarer, and therefore considerably more expensive. Garnet offers equally intense reds, as well as a palette of colours unavailable in ruby, at a more accessible budget — a beautiful alternative for a red stone with character.
Yes, that is our craft. We select the stone at source, present it to you, then design the setting with you before it is crafted in our workshop. Allow generally a few weeks between selecting the stone and receiving the jewel.
Gentle cleaning with warm soapy water and a soft brush is sufficient. Avoid impacts, chemicals and ultrasonic cleaners, and store the ring separately to preserve the stone and setting.
