An emerald engagement ring begins with two choices: the stone, then the setting that will hold it for a lifetime. At Bonnot, both are made with you — certified emeralds from Colombia or Zambia, settings drawn by hand in Paris and set by our master jewellers. Its colour, produced by chromium and vanadium within the beryl, is unique in the mineral world — Cleopatra made it her stone of choice, and medieval tradition held that it had the power to protect lovers. From the historic mines of Muzo and Chivor in Colombia to the Kafubu stones of Zambia with their deep, slightly bluish green, through to the small but intensely coloured Sandawana stones of Zimbabwe, prized by connoisseurs: every origin has its own character. The setting is the emerald's stage: double claws, a bezel, or a diamond halo — each mounting presents the stone differently, and is chosen around it. The half-bezel setting, in which claws protect the corners of the stone specifically, combines the security of a closed bezel with the brilliance of claw prongs — it is often our recommendation. Our hand-drawn gouaches let you picture the ring before it ever reaches the workshop. For the metal, yellow gold is the classic partner to a deep green; white gold gives a contemporary brightness, rose gold a quiet warmth — and platinum, the most refined of all. Our golds are worked in recycled 750/000. Price is determined first by the stone: carat weight, depth of colour and origin drive the cost. Our pieces start at around €2,500, with the heart of the collection ranging from €4,000 to €15,000. Because we select every emerald directly, through our Jaipur office, your budget goes to the stone and the craft. The journey is straightforward: choose your emerald from our certified stones or at an appointment at 10 rue de la Paix, design the bespoke setting together, and receive your ring within four to eight weeks, delivered with its gemmological certificate.
