Price depends on four criteria: colour, clarity, treatment and origin. For a good-quality heated yellow sapphire of around 1 carat, expect €500 to €1,200 per carat. For 2–3 carats of equivalent quality, the range rises to €1,500–€3,000 per carat. An unheated yellow sapphire commands a 30–50% premium. Exceptional pure "canary yellow" sapphires can exceed €5,000 per carat.

The yellow colour of a sapphire comes from traces of iron within its crystal structure. The presence of titanium can push the hue towards orange. The higher the iron concentration, the more intense the yellow. The most prized yellow sapphires display a pure yellow with no green or orange undertone. The term "canary yellow" refers to this exceptional hue. Heating at high temperature can intensify the natural colour of a less saturated stone.

Heating is an age-old treatment for sapphires, practised since antiquity. It intensifies colour and improves transparency. Around 95% of yellow sapphires on the market undergo this process. An unheated yellow sapphire (noted as "no heat" on the certificate) retains all of its natural characteristics and commands a 30–50% premium for equivalent quality. Bonnot Paris offers both options.
