SAPPHIRES

Contrary to popular belief, sapphire is not only blue: it exists in virtually every colour of the spectrum, with the sole exception of red — which is called a ruby, though it belongs to the same mineral family. At Bonnot Paris, we work with seven principal colours:

• Blue sapphire — the timeless classic, from pale blue to deep royal blue. The most prized come from Kashmir (near-exhausted), Ceylon (Sri Lanka) and Burma.
• Yellow sapphire — from pale lemon to intense golden yellow, radiant and sun-like. Principal sources: Sri Lanka and Madagascar.
• Pink sapphire — from pale blush to vivid pink. At the boundary between pink sapphire and ruby sits the padparadscha.
• Padparadscha sapphire — the rarest and most precious of all, with its characteristic pink-orange hues evoking the lotus blossom (the origin of its Sinhalese name). Almost exclusively from Ceylon.
• Teal sapphire — between blue and green, a deep and contemporary shade much sought after for modern engagement rings. Principally from Sri Lanka and Madagascar.
• Violet sapphire — from lavender to deep violet, often mistaken for amethyst but far harder and more brilliant.
• Green sapphire — from pale to intense green, rarer in gem quality.

There are also white (colourless) sapphires, black sapphires, and fancy sapphires in intermediate shades (orange, golden-brown, blue-green). A remarkable optical phenomenon: certain sapphires display a colour change depending on the light source (blue in daylight, violet under incandescent light) — known as colour-change sapphires, they rank among the most precious of all.

This chromatic diversity makes sapphire one of the most versatile precious stones in fine jewellery — each colour carrying its own rarity, its own symbolism, and its own price per carat.

Delivery is made in person in Paris or via a specialist carrier, ensuring a secure, insured and fully reliable shipment to your door.

Timescales depend on the complexity of the piece, but you should generally allow between 4 and 8 weeks from approval of the final design.

With our offices in India, Sri Lanka and Bangkok, close to the markets and the mines, we take the time needed to select the ideal stone, perfectly matched to your expectations.

Yes, Bonnot Paris offers a recycling and transformation service for your jewellery.
We can reuse the gold from your existing pieces to give it a new life, in a jewel designed especially for you.

We work with many clients across France and internationally on the creation of bespoke jewellery.
