Jean-François’s brief
Jean-François contacted us to celebrate an exceptional anniversary with a heritage stone. He was looking for a Colombian emerald of “old mines” origin, one of the world’s most historically sought-after provenances among discerning connoisseurs. Furthermore, the design had to remain clean and architectural to allow the stone to express itself in all its chromatic majesty. Our workshop therefore designed a refined trilogy setting with two baguette-cut diamonds framing the centre stone in a classic, timeless geometry.
The Colombian old mines emerald
The central emerald comes from the historic mines of Colombia, considered the world’s most prestigious for this gemstone. Indeed, the term “old mines” refers to the historic deposits of Muzo, Chivor and Coscuez, mined since pre-Columbian times. Its unique colour combines a deep, slightly bluish green with a distinctive brilliance, sought-after characteristics of antique Colombian emeralds. Moreover, its hardness of 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale requires particular care when worn. Emerald remains one of the four cardinal precious stones, alongside diamond, sapphire and ruby, and Colombian “old mines” emeralds are among the most coveted on the market.
The Colombian old mines emerald white gold ring in detail
This Colombian old mines emerald white gold ring features a refined trilogy composition. For example, the emerald-cut centre stone is set in claws in a dominant position, framed by two baguette-cut diamonds that bring elegant linear geometry. The 0.22-carat F/VS diamond accompaniment enhances the visual purity of the whole without competing with the centre stone. In addition, the 750/000 white gold setting creates a cool setting that brings out the emerald’s deep green. The ensemble thus creates a perfect balance between architectural minimalism and the preciousness of heritage gemmology.
