Marie’s brief

Marie contacted us to create an unconventional engagement ring featuring an unheated green sapphire. She was looking for a distinctive stone in a rare hue, guaranteed to be free from heat treatment. Furthermore, the design was to play on contrasts, combining brilliant diamonds and small accompanying green sapphires to create a unique chromatic signature. Our workshop therefore designed a composition combining marquise diamonds, round diamonds and green sapphires arranged in asymmetrical clusters on either side of the centre stone.

The 1.15-carat unheated Madagascar green sapphire

The central green sapphire comes from Madagascar, one of the most prestigious origins for this rare variety of fancy sapphire. Indeed, its unheated guarantee is a decisive premium attribute: the majority of sapphires on the market undergo heat treatment to intensify their colour, making unheated green sapphires especially sought-after. Its unique colour combines a fresh, luminous green that clearly distinguishes it from teal sapphires and classic blue sapphires. Moreover, its 1.15-carat weight and oval cut reveal the full purity of the gemstone. A sapphire’s hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale ensures excellent resistance to daily wear over decades.

This unheated Madagascar green sapphire ring features a particularly refined composition of asymmetrical clusters. For example, the central oval green sapphire is claw-set in yellow gold and accompanied by marquise diamonds, brilliant round diamonds and small green sapphires arranged in clusters on either side of the band. This combination creates a subtle chromatic gradation between the main stone and the secondary flashes of light, in a unique green-and-white harmony. Furthermore, the 750/000 yellow gold setting echoes the warmth of the metal and enhances the freshness of the stone’s green. The overall design thus creates a perfect balance between elaborate composition and gemmological preciousness.
